This advice is for all new students coming to the University of Bath in the academic session 2014-15.
Your library card is very important for your first few days as a student. If you have purchased a wristband from the Student Union for the Freshers’ Week activities, you will need your library card to collect it. Your Library card acts as your Student identification and once encoded can provide access to your campus accommodations and other university facilities. And, of course you need your library card to borrow books and access other library services.
Please note this advice for how to obtain your library card:
- Students must have completed Registration On-Line where possible.
- It is very important that you upload a picture of yourself if you are able to as soon as possible.
With your completed registration and a picture upload, your library card can be printed.
When your card is printed Library staff will send an email to your University of Bath email account (login using your Bath Computing Services Username and Password) advising where you can collect your card:
1) If you have completed Registration On-Line, uploaded a picture and you are living in campus accommodation, your printed card will most probably be sent to Accommodation staff to be given out at the Arrivals Centres on the weekend of 20-21 September or the residences themselves when you collect your room keys. Where required, these library cards should be pre-set to grant access to your accommodation and any food and drink accounts you have pre-purchased.
2) If you have completed Registration On-Line and uploaded a picture but are not living in campus accommodation, your library card will be kept at the Library Issue Desk where it can be collected during staffed hours. The Issue Desk is open 9am – 5pm during this period and from 10am-5pm on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September (Arrivals weekend).
If you do not complete Registration On-Line or upload a picture before you get here, there will be staff from the Student Records office working in the library on Sunday 21 September to assist students with registration queries. Also, the Library will provide self-service photo-booths to allow students to take pictures and collect their library card during the Arrivals weekend and throughout induction week.
The Library building is located at the centre of the campus, Security staff are based in the Library 24 hours a day, every day.
Library Service Hours
The Library Issue Desk will be staffed from 1000-1700 on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September for the production and distribution of new student library cards and general student queries. You will find that Computing Services staff will also be available during the Arrivals weekend.
During the week of Monday 22 to Friday 26 September, the Issue Desk will be staffed from 0900-1700.
The Library building is open 24 hours a day every day. The self-service photobooths described above can be used up until 2000 everyday from Monday 22 September. Pictures taken in the evening for library cards will be printed the following morning for collection on weekdays. Service points in the Library and opening hours will be signposted during the Arrivals weekend and the days following for students arriving late.
Library cards are produced all year round so don’t worry if you aren’t able to reach Bath during the Induction period. Staff will be available from various sections of the University to assist with registration and finance queries throughout the Induction week but if you are able to, you are encouraged to complete registration online and upload a picture before you get here.
