Open Access is the  free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results (the Wikipedia article on Open Access is a great starting point for finding out more).

International Open Access week is being celebrated from 20-26 October 2014 and will be promoted in universities across the world. This year the week is directed at postgraduate researchers and the Library Research Services team are marking the occasion by holding daily drop-in sessions in the Library, and hosting a movie event at the Graduate Centre.

Drop-In Sessions

For research staff, academics, authors – drop in to see us on Level 4 of the Library (4.11 and 4.12) between 12-2pm Monday to Friday, with questions about the HEFCE Open Access Policy, Open Access funding enquiries, how to use Pure/Opus or anything in between.

PhD Comics Movie

Primarily of interest to postgraduates, we will be showing the PhD Comics movie  in the Graduate Centre at 13:30 on Friday 24th October. The movie will be proceeded by a brief presentation on Open Access.  No need to register, just turn up!  Snacks provided.

Open Access – Are you REF ready?

Follow these 3 simple steps to be considered for the next REF, with regard to the HEFCE Open Access Policy:

  1. Keep your Authors’ Accepted Manuscript
  2. Upload this to Pure at point of acceptance (not at publication stage)
  3. Contact the Library with any questions

More info to follow soon!
